About

Key task

As a concept project focused on healthy lifestyle and nutrition, I designed a native mobile barcode scanning app that helps users instantly evaluate food products. The app gives clear, color-coded health indicators and detailed nutrition facts, helping people make better choices quickly and easily in a store environment.

My task was to design and develop a mobile-first user experience that empowers consumers to scan product barcodes, instantly view relevant health data, and receive actionable feedback on nutrition and ingredients. I focused on a clean, intuitive UI, ensuring that scanning is fast, seamless, and delivers results in a way that supports healthy everyday decisions.

Research Competitors

Key Features

I conducted a competitive analysis of existing barcode scanning apps such as Foodstr, Purecheck, and Nutri Score Scan. This helped identify common pain points, successful patterns, and opportunities for improvement in health-related product evaluation, forming the basis for a clearer, more user-focused experience.

• Barcode scanning and manual search for products • Ingredient breakdown, including allergens and nutritional content • Health rating (Healthy, Moderately Healthy, Unhealthy) • Comparison feature to evaluate multiple products side by side • History tracking for previously scanned products

Moodboard Explanation

In this moodboard, I focused on analyzing clear and engaging ways to present nutritional data through color-coded bars, intuitive typography, and product-focused imagery. I paid special attention to visual hierarchy, quick-access nutrition summaries, and the seamless integration of barcode scanning flows. The goal was to combine clarity, aesthetic appeal, and functional interactions to inspire an accessible and user-friendly barcode scanning experience.

User Flow + Variables

After collecting visual inspiration, I developed a detailed user flow to map out the entire scanning journey step by step, identifying key screens and decision points. Alongside, I defined variables such as nutritional data, product categories, and user preferences to ensure the app could flexibly adapt to different types of scanned products. This helped create a clear, logical foundation for a consistent and user-focused interface.

Design system

Developed a structured and visually consistent design system including a color palette, typography, iconography, and reusable iOS components. Ensured clear standards for designers and developers, improving brand recognition and interface consistency. Delivered a scalable and systematic UI framework to support future product growth.

Application Screens

I translated the user flow and design system into high-fidelity application screens, focusing on clarity, usability, and a seamless barcode scanning experience. Each screen was carefully designed to support quick product evaluation and intuitive navigation, ensuring a smooth and engaging user journey.
